HD, 1080p and data on AnimeFlix

What HD means for anime, why 4K matters for the films and little for series, and how much data a cour uses.

Anime is 1080p

Television anime is produced at 1080p or below and upscaled, so the HD stream is the real one and a 4K stream adds little; the theatrical films are the exception and look superb in 4K on a 4K screen. 480p is the data-saver tier and looks fine on a phone; 720p and 1080p are both HD.

Data

HD uses one to three gigabytes an hour; a twelve-episode cour in HD is about six gigabytes and about two at 480p, which is the setting for mobile data. Download over Wi-Fi the night before, as the downloads page explains.

When it buffers

Drop the tier one step in the service's player and it settles; the devices page covers televisions on Wi-Fi.
